Mikki van Zyl
Mikki is the
sole proprieter is Simply Said and Done,
which has functioned as a light frame structure
since 1993. Simply Said and Done draws
on expert associates when needed to cooperate
on joint projects.
Mikki van Zyl was an
activist in the anti-apartheid struggle
from the late 1970s until democratisation
in the 1990s. Since 1993 she has run
her own business for gender and capacity
development,
Simply Said and Done. Mikki
comes from a background in gender studies
with degrees in Communication and Media
Studies, and an MPhil in Sociology. She
has done extensive qualitative research
on a variety of topics such as gender
and media, gender-based violence, sexualities,
gender and land reform, sustainable development,
identity-based gender social movements,
institutional culture and exiles in the
anti-apartheid struggle. She has lectured
in Media Studies, Sociology, Criminology
and Diversity Studies. For the last fifteen
years she has worked as a trainer, writer
and consultant in gender and development
and participatory research methodologies. Simply
Said and Done is an associate of
iNCUDISA (the Institute for Intercultural
and Diversity Studies of Southern Africa)
at the University of Cape Town. Besides
her academic publications, she has also
published short stories and poetry in
both Afrikaans and English.
